An ambitious community center for VMR: the winning project finally unveiled

The future Town of Mount Royal Community Centre is taking shape, promising to transform the social, athletic, and cultural life of the people of Mount Royal. The selected project was unveiled Tuesday evening to residents.

Among three proposals analyzed based on eleven criteria, the consortium Équipe Sports et Communauté VMR, led by Groupe Geyser Inc. and Groupe Axor Inc., won the bid. The $77 million contract ($89 million including taxes) was awarded on April 28.

Particular attention was paid to the architectural harmony of the future complex, which will integrate with the neighboring Town Hall and the new municipal building at 30-40 Roosevelt, which will house, among other things, a fire station.

An 11,400 m² complex for the entire community

The new center will offer an impressive array of activities for all ages and interests: Three aquatic pools: a competition pool (8 lanes), a teaching pool (3 lanes), and a recreational pool with slides and water games A double gymnasium An indoor running track Six multipurpose rooms (preschool, aquatic activities, etc.) Three art studios (painting, sculpture, pottery) Five exercise rooms (dance, ballet, weight training, spinning, fitness) A seniors’ lounge A youth space A community kitchen Two conference rooms A café-snack bar Offices and locker rooms suitable for all activities A reception desk and administrative offices for Recreation Space for non-profit organizations and community groups.

A government-supported project

The turnkey project receives financial support from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, which is providing a $2.7 million grant for its implementation.
